St. Paul police officer Brett Palkowitsch was indicted by a federal grand jury regarding his 2016 use of excessive force on former GBB client, Frank Baker. At a recent hearing, Magistrate Judge Katherine Menendez placed certain conditions of release on Palkowitsch during this pending case. The terms of release included surrendering his passport and firearm, limiting his travel to within Minnesota and Wisconsin unless approved by probation, having no contact with Mr. Baker and having no contact the eight other officers who responded to the scene of the incident. While arguing for the need for the last term, Federal Prosecutor, Christopher Perras, explained the request was necessary because it was discovered that Palkowitsch had made several attempts to reach out to at least one fellow officer who had been at the scene of the incident to allegedly collude to get their stories straight.
Mr. Baker’s Section 1983 case settled for “a historic $2 million” in 2017. For more information regarding the criminal case against Palkowitsch, visit the Pioneer Press:
